Ultrasound or “doppler / duplex” is a form of diagnostic imaging that uses sound waves to create an image of the inside of your body. It is non-invasive and radiation free. There are no needles involved.

A specialist sonographer will look at your blood vessels (arteries and/or veins) and take measurements.

Yes. After decades of clinical use, there are no known health risks for patients.

Ultrasound machines are not like CT or MRI machines. You will not be placed into a small tunnel. Instead, you will be laying on a bed (or sometimes sitting or standing) next to an ultrasound machine, while the sonographer (technician) uses a probe (transducer) and some gel to slide over your skin.

Wear appropriate underwear and comfortable, easy to remove clothing. If having an abdominal ultrasound, you will be required to fast overnight. More details regarding this will be given when booking you appointment.

Your referring doctor will share your results with you. You can request a copy of the results if you wish. The ultrasound images are not routinely supplied. If you require your images, you can supply your own USB and we can save the images for you.

Yes. We have both male and female vascular sonographers. While we cannot always guarantee, at most times we can accommodate specific requests, especially if made in advance.

Yes. Medicare card holders will receive either a partial or total refund depending on the test. When booking your appointment, the reception staff will advise you on these fees.

No. A GP referral is acceptable for an ultrasound.

We can usually book you in for an appointment within a week of you contacting us.

If you call with in our business hours (Monday – Friday: 8am – 4:30pm) we can usually accommodate for same day ultrasounds. However if you feel your condition is critical it is best to present to an Emergency department.

Yes. There is limited timed street parking on Briggs street. There is also limited free parking available in our carpark, accessible from Briggs street, next to the clinic. The receptionists will give you the exit code after your appointment. See Contact page for more information on getting here.

Yes. There is ramp access to the building via the loading dock (link to page with image). Once in the building there is lift access to level 2. See Contact page for a detailed map with wheelchair access highlighted.

No, results must be first sent to your doctor. In the case of urgent findings, the sonographer will contact the doctor immediately.

Vascular sonographers have specific training and experience in assessing both common and rare vascular conditions, which is out of the scope of training for most general sonographers. We have a close working relationship with the vascular surgeons and are aware of the exact details they require.
